Great movie, this surprised me, wasn't too sure what I'd brought. The story runs around a series of quite grisly murders in a somewhat backwood farming community in South Korea...the law are all middle aged and quite fat, but the director still makes em move. A Japanese guy who's just moved into the area is believed to be the murderer, but the story soon travels into Korean/Japanese magic, the leading police sergeant has a young girl typical 8 - 10 years old, when the magic comes to her things begin to change quite rapidly
My big problem with this horror is...it's not scary. Not even a bit. And that's a bit of a problem. However, if they're not scary then the next thing I look for is...are they weird? And the answer to that is yes. The Wailing is weird. But too weird and too long that it just drains the life out of you and becomes more of a battle to watch it than a pleasure. The acting is good but the storyline is bang average for me. I'm really disappointed because I tried to really like this movie. But the Wailing is a failing.
