The lens is build from hard plastic parts, feels okay if you keep in mind it`s price. Lens is not the sharpest and I will definitely move to more advanced lenses later, but it does the job. Focus is slow and sometimes doesn`t hit the target. For video it is hardly to use. Continues focus is just terrible with this and Sony A7r II. Manual focus works fine and I am used to that.

Good cheap prime but based on older tech and the focus motor is noisy. If you need a general purpose fast prime that is dirt cheap, here it is. If you have a bit more cash there are better options.

I've been photographing frequently over the past year and progressed to buying a Sony Alpha A7iii, which included a FE 28-70mm f/3.5-5.6 kit lens. Because I watch online tutorials and read camera related books, I realised that a quick, prime lens would most likely be a good upgrade for someone relatively new to more serious 'art' and landscape photography. The reviews confirmed that, for the price, the Sony FE 50mm f/1.8 prime lens would be a decent buy. As soon as I shot the first few test images, I knew that I'd made a good decision in purchasing it. The construction is robust, the depth of field allows a good range of visual effects, the bokeh is pleasing, and the image quality is crisp. As I transition from beginner to intermediate, I'm sure that this lens will serve well. I would highly recommend the Sony FE 50mm f/1.8 prime lens for price and excellent performance.Read full review

This Sony 50mm prime lens is well built, has very sharp glass and is a reasonable size for a Full Frame lens. It doesn't feature any OSS. Unfortunately it is let down by its hesitant focus. I've taken beautiful shots with this lens and also missed quite a few due to its slow hesitant focusing. I've been using this lens on my Sony A7 Mk1 and my A5100 and the focusing behaves the same on both cameras. I don't think my lens comes from a bad batch as its slow focusing has been confirmed by most reviewers. If you can live with a slower focusing lens, then I can recommend this lens based on its build and excellent sharpness, if not look elsewhere...!

Hi, there. The Optics is nice but the slow Focus annoys me that is why I preffered to use LA-EA4 and just bought old minolta 50mm f1. 7 lens which accually fucuses much faster. I believe the coating of the new Sony lens is better but unless Sony does not improve the Autofocus for this lens without changing the price better opt out for onother normal lens. In case you are happy with slow Focus or manual focusing take this one. If you are rich enough buy Sony 55mm lens which is brilliant one. I did different step and with LA-EA4 I have bought A mount lenses for much less money. Buying LA-EA4 means you are using Sony A99 camera focusing system and I am happy with it!

A great little lens. Great valve. Bit noisy on auto focus but nice lens.

This lens is a perfect complement for any Sony A7 camera. Probably best on a stabilised body as it has no OSS. Very good at f/1.8 for low light shots. It can rival the more expensive primes. Got mine for £95 on eBay 👍

Incredibly sharp and useful 1.8 aperture. A bit slow to focus on auto, but acceptable. You can pick up a used one for less than £150, great value.

The zoom in video noise is pretty loud other than that rest all is good.
