Reviews3.5 stars out of 5 -- "An unabashedly joyful celebration of being British...it could make an Anglophile out of anyone.", 4 stars out of 5 -- "Bittersweet laments for the lost romance of towerblocks and teenage dreams, particularly on desolate career highpoint 'Teenage Winter'.", 3 stars out of 5 -- "Pure pop producers Xenomania were at the helm and David Essex added extra vocals.", "TALES is unabashedly domestic, and to avoid being too groove-heavy or sleepy, it's sequenced to pogo between lite ballads and dance-floor fodder."

  • Another fine album from a great band.

I like most of what Saint Etienne play, there are the odd tracks that I sometimes find what I call fillers. You can't expect all the songs on an album to be exceptional, it takes a lot to keep producing great songs after songs. But on the whole, Saint Etienne have written some great songs.
