  • Excellent lens for a reasonable price.

I bought this lens based on several reviews, which were super-positive. My experience is that the focus may need to be fine-tuned with the Tap-In Console, as my copy was not in focus at 200mm wide open at distances around 20m. Otherwise the lens is from factory very sharp - specially around 135mm, where similar lenses are usually weaker. At 200mm wide open it is a little softer, but still very good and better than the old Nikkor 70-200 VR1. Stopped down just to 3,5 it provides excellent sharpness. Compared to many competing lenses, this one is sharp across the whole frame and not in the center only, as my previous Nikkor VR1. The optical stabilizer is maybe the best I have ever met. It is incredible! I can take sharp images at 200mm with shutter set just to 1/25s. It may be even less depending on how steady You are. It is also completely quiet (including focusing), so it can be used for video with sound. The build quality is excellent and I have nothing to complain about. I would maybe appreciate a better plastic for the lens hood, as I have the feeling this may break easily. As this was the first time for me to have a lens with this layout of the focusing and zoom rings, I was quite confused for some time and I missed some shots at the beginnig just because I pulled the wrong ring. But I got used to it and I feel as comfortable with it as with the previous lens. This is the same case like with the latest Nikkor FL lens, which has the same layout. Regarding the size, it is a little shorter than the Nikkor VR1, so happily I can fit it in one of my camera bags, where the old Nikkor would not fit. The autofocus is super-fast and accurate. I am also looking forward to try the teleconverter as it seems to be rated very well in all the reviews. So from my side I can recommend this lens.

  • A fantastic lens and highly comparable to the Canon equivalent

Build quality, lens feel and image quality are excellent. The stabilisation is great and really noticeable. Only bug bear would be that you have to remove the lens hood to reach the zoom ring but definitely not a deal breaker. First time I have moved away from Canon lenses and definitely has me convinced to consider more in the future

  • Another winner from Tamron

Don't hesitate buy this lens it is amazing. The Optical Image Stabilisation is nothing short of a miracle and allows hand holding even in low light. And yes it is as sharp as a razor. Only downsides are the switches are slightly raised and I often find they have moved to a setting I don't want. And the matt finish is prone to marks but some far these have come off with a damp cloth. It is also very heavy so I use 2 straps one for the camera and one for the lens, so little weight is on the camera lens mount. Well down Tamron a winner at half the price of the new Nikon version.

  • Tamron 70 - 200 lens. Canon fit.

Excellent quality for a reasonable price, have a couple of older Tamron lenses and they were good. I understand the G2 range is even better. Looking to get 24 - 70 G2 next, other than my Canon 50mm - they will be the only ones in my bag.

  • Sharp images at a great price

Tamron SP G2 series lenes, in general, are of great quality. This lens provides very sharp images with little to none compromise when compared to Canon's native lens.

  • Lens ok, package not that ok.

Lense works ok, the only thing which bother me is package. On box (package) are visible injuries. Whay they don't put any fragile label on it??

  • Excellent lens would recommend

A little heavier than its predecessor, takes a while to balance and keep steady when shooting free hand, but nothing a good monopod can't sort out.

  • A Canon beater!

Just as good as the Canon equivalent, but much cheaper. Robust and well made. Excellent handling.
