Fujita's book spans about 90 pages in English. The rest of the book is copies of Fujita's original text (in Japanese). So for the person who can't read Japanese, it's a roughly 90 page book. Don't let that put you off though! This is a rarity - Ninjutsu minus the marketing! There are people who doubt Fujita's words. That could be because they don't understand that in Budo scrolls you have to look a bit deeper than the words - hence why some study 'The Art of War' for years. People say Fujita is a dreamer and the book has some silly things such as the Ninja parachute. What those people don't seem to understand is earlier in the book he explained how a cloth could be used to slow a fall - the Ninja with a parachute was probably just a sketch. The infamous 'water shoes' probably a bad translation of his original text. I have nothing to gain, it's not my job to defend Fujita Seiko but I have studied the history of the Samurai and the Shinobi for many years and have to say this book is a rare gem. Fujita explains Ninjutsu was a set of skills used by the Samurai, bandits, spies, etc and not a seperate martial art. Whilst Prof Stephen Turnbull may find it hard to make up his mind, Fujita says it clearly. It says a whole lot in those 90 English pages but you have to be prepared to read them and see what he was getting at, not just read the words.Read full review
