  • Essential reading for Damned fans

I was torn about buying this. I've waited years for a biography on this fine band and then two get published at once. Which to go for? Being predominantly interested in the earlier days I went for this one. The book itself is well presented. A nice hardback cover and plenty of unseen photos from all eras and line ups. The story is well written and thoroughly researched. Format is simple and traditional - tells the story chronologically and how it is. The author certainly sings the band's praises throughout and quite rightly so! Many humorous moments, I knew The Damned were 'mischievous' but never realised what animals they were. All makes for fascinating reading. As the book references, it is unfair that The Damned don't get quite the recognition that some of their peers do. They have survived turbulent times and the cruel hand of the music press and the industry in general. Despite this they soldiered on and made some of the most beautiful music of the era. To summarise, this is an excellent and essential read for any fans of the The Damned or the punk scene from 1976, onwards.
