  • Science as she should be taught

I never thought I would find astrophysics not just vaguely of interest but utterly compelling. I often have to reread a paragraph two or three times BUT when it makes sense finally, it really makes sense.I plan to buy several more copies and gift these to my friends who may never read it (their loss) but may gift it to others that will appreciate this little gem. I am going online to see what else I can find by this author.

  • Mind blowing stuff!

I have read it over and over. Mind blowing stuff. The author has an easy style that makes Astrophysics a joy. My mind has been sucked into a black hole that’s a new dimension for my brain.

  • Astrophysics

Good book for those new to the subject. Engagingly written and entertaining. Enjoyed it a lot except for the last chapter in which the author wrings his hands over the fact that not everyone has the financial means and opportunity to study astrophysics as he has done- out of place and a bit goofy.

  • Astrophysics for everyone: A Review

The book makes studying astrophysics very interesting. Its like we are learning face to face with an expert in a friendly manner and we come to know about amazing concepts about universe. Just little basic knowledge is required to understand the book.

  • Astronomy in a nutshell to evoke interest for deeper study

Love the author, love the topic so it couldn't go wrong. Perfect to those interested in astronomy and astrophysics on a base level. Pretty cover too.

  • Decent explanation of physics

I took AP physics in high school and I am now 48 and wanted a refresher. It is a great explanation of what you may question. It does not go into great depth of each issue but if you have more questions on a subject you can always look it up at a different time. But it is an easy read.

  • Not lightweight, but probably as lightweight as possible when pondering the wonders of our universe.

This book took all my concentration even though its title advertises it "for people in a hurry". There were pages dealing with the discoveries of astrophysics which were beyond my comprehension. Even so, the material is fascinating. Overwhelmingly fascinating. Like learning that "night and day, a hundred billion neutrinos from the Sun pass through each square inch of your body, every second, without a trace of interaction with your body's atoms". How about pondering the idea that infinity goes in both directions - outwards to the universe and inwards to the molecular. WHEW! WHAT? I am grateful Neil Tyson attempted to share these laws of science with us nonscientists. I highly recommend this book. I am on my second time through now.

  • Good scope, not a lot of depth

This provided a good, high level summary of astrophysics, in a very conversational and at times, humorous manner. For a person like me, with math/chemistry/physics degrees who wanted to catch up to the latest thinking, it was broad but very superficial, which was a bit of a disappointment. Not a single equation (or illustration that I can remember) in the entire book. For someone with no science background, it might be a bit of a hard read in places, as it contains a fair amount of particle physics along the way.

  • Simple explanations your kids would understand

Discover Magazine is to Scientific American what "Highlights" is to Good Housekeeping - the same content on a simpler level. This book continues that level of comprehension - about middle-school. Tyson uses his own personal style of effective, practical introductions to astrophysics which he used successfully in the remake of Cosmos. If you are not familiar with the subject matter in the book, the explanations are excellent. If, however, you hoped to learn something deeper, keep reading Scientific American articles.

  • A catchy title that suited me and others who work and have little free time.

Mine is a hardback book, in an easy to read size for arthritic hands, and easy to carry and read at lunch break.
