SynopsisIn the first Alex Delaware novel, Dr. Morton Handler practiced a strange brand of psychiatry. Among his specialties were fraud, extortion, and sexual manipulation. Handler paid for his sins when he was brutally murdered in his luxurious Pacific Palisades apartment. The police have no leads, but they do have one possible witness: seven-year-old Melody Quinn. It's psychologist Dr. Alex Delaware's job to try to unlock the terrible secret buried in Melody's memory. But as the sinister shadows in the girl's mind begin to take shape, Alex discovers that the mystery touches a shocking incident in his own past. This connection is only the beginning, a single link in a forty-year-old conspiracy. And behind it lies an unspeakable evil that Alex Delaware must expose before it claims another innocent victim: Melody Quinn.
Having read all of Kellermans Alex Delaware books, I saved this one for last. I wanted to really get to know the author's style and characters. I read them randomly as I came across each book i found and became hooked after the first one, dated early 2000. Each drew me into a world of twisted minds, unspeakable acts, and of course the two main characters detective Milo Sturgis and police consultant Alex Delaware in their synergetic efforts to solve extremely difficult cases. The two become best friends, though they could not be more different from each other. After reading one book after the other until I finished all through his most recent, I ordered "When the Bough Breaks". I had never seen the movie so I had no idea what this story was about other tjsn the title hinted at a general theme about children or a child. I couldn't put the book down. I wanted to know how detective Sturgis and psychologist Delaware met and formed not only a working relationship but a long term genuine respect and friendship empowering an unbeatable, uncanny ability to get to the bottom of the worst imaginable crimes in Los Angeles. I'm glad I saved the best so far published for last. Waiting for more to come!
