Probably as good as a new one? Certainly a bargain option well worth considering.
I had misgivings about buying a re-furbished drive for my WD MyCloud NAS and was advised against it. It remains to be seen how reliable it proves over time. But the label on the drive stated it was manufactured less that 12 months ago and it seemed to bear a manufacturer's certification. All very re-assuring. Given the much higher price of a new WD Red it could well prove a superb bargain. After all, these are supposed to be ultra reliable long-life items.
In a 2/4 RAID NAS configuration where one drive unexpectedly (and presumably unusually?) fails this could be a very economical solution. And yes, it worked right out of the box; just slotted it in and the RAID rebuild started automatically.
