Great sounds and practical features!
This nice new stompbox from EH is really something special - and spot on if you are into prog from the 70's! They have chosen the right sounds, and being able to play chords through it with normal pickups is just fantastic! And to top it off, the attack and sustain controls really works amazing. They can really shape the effects to something really musical, making this box more of a proper tool than just a cool sounding effect. The only downside is complex chords, and bass triggering. Although they claim it works on bass down to low A, it is somewhat selective on the triggering if you combine notes even high in the register. But then, you quickly adjust your playing to that - and I find it especially useful on 6 string bass / baritone. All in all a spectacular new stompbox, tons of authentic prog character here. Electro Harmonix Mel 9 guitar pedal
This pedal is truly, utterly awesome ! ! If you can't afford an actual "Mellotron" keyboard, which cost an absolute fortune, this is the budget holy grail of classic late 60s sounds ( it costs a couple of hundred pounds rather than the approx thousand a Mellotron would). Again Electro Harmonix have thought imaginatively & not repetitively about what a guitar pedal should be (i have the ravish sitar pedal also, which again is awesome & highly recommended too) ! Being a better guitar player than a keyboard player, this pedal has made recording the orchestral instruments a whole lot easier ( although you can use a keyboard, if you so desire, to trigger the sounds on this pedal. I've tried both & they are equally good). What can I say ! This is a must for fans of the quirky tones that a Mellotron would give you, so rush out & buy one, I'm so glad I did. Also one last thought, of all the pedal manufacturers out there, Electro Harmonix are undoubtedly the "Rolls Royce" as far as I'm concerned. Top class effects pedal..how do thy do it?
