  • Not to everyone's liking, but don't dismiss them too quickly

With their 1950's telephone operator looks you could easily be mistaken for expecting the Grado GS2000e headphones to be quite utilitarian, in a sense they are, but no clacking poor telephone line. I like how they look, Grado haven't really changed the design of their headphones in all the years that I've been aware of them, the earpads could be a softer, softer ones are available though, so no real worries there, you won't be using these in public either, they are open back which means they can be heard quite easily by others, but this does have its up side, they sound so much better for being able to breath while being used. So when can you actually use them? Those nights when you want to listen to your music collection but you don't want to disturb the neighbours, or when you just can't sleep but you don't want to wake up everyone in the house, yes sounds do leak out, but in a room by yourself you will be safe, I use mine with a Graham Slee Solo headphone amplifier and PSU1 power supply, beautiful sound, the best I have ever heard from any headphones, I have the Grado extension lead, this is quite thick, this of course means that it's got some weight to it too, this can be quite restrictive if moving around, keep as much as possible close to your position and have it rested at your side with some slack for ease of movement, I actually have two extention leads, one from an earlier pair of Grado headphones, depending where I'm sitting I'll use both and keep about a metre of slack beside my. The headphones are comfortable, I already had the softer earpads so I use those, my ears don't get hot at all, the tension is easily adjusted and despite the thin looking headband it is actually perfectly comfortable. I know that the GS2000e headphones are not cheap, but they will last many years if stored in their box or better still a good headphone stand, show them off, they are a terrific talking piece with their wooden ear cups and leather headband, worth every penny.
