SynopsisABOUT THE AUTHORShortly after graduating from the College of Medicine, University of Santo Tomas in Manila Philippines, Dr. Jocelyn H. Bruce-Gregorios (a.k.a. Dr. Joy Bruce) was appinted as a faculty member at De Ocampo Memorial School's Medical Technology Department and later joined the Departments of Physiology and Pharmacology at the University of Santo Tomas Faculty of Medicine and Surgery. She wrote the first edition of "Histopathologic Techniques" before migrating to the United States in 1975. She completed three years of residency training in Anatomic Pathology, one year of clinical training in Neurology, and three years of Neuropathology Fellowship training at the Cleveland Metropolitan General Hospital in Ohio with subspecialty in Electron Microscopy at the Cleveland Clinic. She worked as neuropathologist at Jackson Memorial Hospital in Miami, became a tenured Full Professor at the University of Miami-Miller School of Medicine, and taught pathology residents, medical students and histotechnologists for more than 25 years before retiring in Florida. She was co-author of several Pathology and Neurology book chapters, has given numerous formal presentations at scientific conventions in the U.S., and has published more than ABOUT THE BOOKThis book provides a concise presentation of the fundamental knowledge and principles of histopathologic techniques, and includes new technological methods in histotechnology. A chapter on Risk Management and Safety in the Laboratory emphasizes the importance of instrumentation, quality control and safety precautions when dealing with histologic material. Chapters on histochemistry, rapid processing techniques, and cytology serve as a guide in processing and staining specimen. The use of microwave as a non-chemical method of tissue stabilization and fixation, rapid tissue processing, archival material, immunohistochemistry and molecular biological techniques such as in-situ hybridization and polymerase chain reaction techniques are presented. This book also includes a brief course in immunology, covering topics of antigens, antibodies, antigen-antibody reactions, and an explanation of required steps in immunostaining procedures, introduced at a level which assumes the participant has no previous knowledge of chemistry or immunology.
