Notes2011 debut full length from the Folk/Country duo. The Civil Wars consists of John Paul White, hailing from Florence, AL and Joy Williams, originally from Santa Cruz, CA, but now residing in East Nashville. The duo's chance meeting a year and a half ago fueled an immediate songwriting chemistry and creative synergy. Their second show ever, performed at a sold out Eddie's Attic, was recorded and released as a free digital album. Of the duo, Reg's Coffee House host, Scott Register, praises: 'In my 13 years on the radio, few of the artists I've championed had as immediate a reaction as The Civil Wars. When I first spun 'Poison & Wine' listeners couldn't get enough of it and wanted to own it immediately. This band has the 'it' factor that you look for. Don't miss out.'

  • The Civil Wars: Barton Hollow CD (2011)

Ok I really wanted to give this CD 3.5 stars, eBay will not allow that, so I gave it 4 stars. First of all, Joy Williams and John Paul White (The Civil Wars) have angelic voices, that create pure magic when combined. I've listened to this CD on a cheap CD player and a very expensive sound system and I still have my one complaint. Whomever mixed this session, needs to get their ears checked. I'm sorry but when the acoustic guitar is hogging some of the same sonic space as the vocals, I get put off. It is a simple mix down procedure to ensure that the vocals rise above every other instrument in the mix. Not so with this CD. I reckon it must have been a somewhat low budget affair, which is truly sad, because these two fine musicians can really sing and compose excellent songs. They deserve to have their voices front and center without anything mucking up their delivery. That being said, it is my understanding that these two fine musicians are no longer working together. That in and of itself is a true Heartbreak. When singing together a Magical aspect appears and it is truly wonderous. If a true music fan is able they owe it to themselves to seek these two out as 'The Civil Wars' on YouTube and listen to their rendition of Michael Jackson's "Billie Jean". My mind was completely blown and my musical heart soared. It occurred to me that Michael would've probably really enjoyed their version of his classic. It is easily the best version of a Michael Jackson cover I have ever heard, bar none. I understand their rendition of Michael's song has not been released, at least I am unable to find it other than YouTube. I hope they get back together in the future and work up some new material. The musical world has lost plenty of magic when these two amazing musicians stopped working together. My prayer is that sometime down the road Joy and John Paul will reignite the magic and bless us all with what is easily a God given talent. Until that time my fingers will be crossed in the hopes they find each other again and release more of their special magic. Long Live The Civil Wars!!! Thank you Joy and John Paul!!!!
