  • Meyle Rad Fan Temp Switch for VW Passat etc used in a TVR Chimaera

I bought a similar product for my TVR Chimaera from a reputable TVR parts reseller and when tested prior to fitting instead of switching at 92C it actually came in mid 70s - much lower than the cut out temperature. Consequently the cooling fans were pretty much permanently on. I selected this one because it was branded. I needed a switch that would turn on at 92C and off at 87 (as per TVR Spec) has an M22 thread with standard 6.3mm Lucar connectors (I could easily work around teh connectors if required). This met all of the requirements. Once installed I inserted a temperature probe into the cooling swirl pot that was connected to a Fluke 170 DVM I then run up the engine comparting the coolant temperature with that seen in RoverGauge from the ECU temperature sender. I could only do this up to about 50C because the coolant was expanding and would very soon overflow. Never the less at this point the ECU sensor was very close the the calibrated Fluke Fluke=52.4C ECU=53C. I removed the fluke sensor and reinstalled the coolant swirl pot cap. I left the engine running for several cycles of the cooling fans. The turn on point on the ECU sensor was generally 91C and off was generally 84-85C. Now I think that is pretty close for a 92-87 sensor . Clearly the measurements are a tad crude but certainly satisfy my requirements and the results are much better than a similar unbranded product from a respectable outlet. I have added a photo of the crude baseline calibration test of the ECU sensor showing the Fluke reading and the Rover Gauge reading

  • Well priced and good quality

I actually bought this for my Classic mini using the thread size and the temperature switching details provided. It is fitted to a Chinese all alloy radiator and fits perfectly.
