Upgrade Spigot Before You Fill It
This is the best rain barrel out there, and I have two of them now. It makes the most of your available space, and tucks in tight to your wall or deck. Others are full profile, protrude out into walkways and with the resulting voids allows tree debris to blow in behind the barrel. This barrel sits flat on the ground and if you want to fill water cans, you'll have to build a base to set the barrel upon as high as the can you want to fill. Just do yourself a favor before you fill this for the first time: take the cheap plastic spigot that comes with the barrel and pitch it into the recycle bin. Then replace it with one made of brass or an inline PVC valve. If you decide to attach a hose to the spigot, remind users not to pull or jerk the hose, because that creates a ton of leverage against it. Even with a solid brass fitting, the threads in this type of plastic could pull out pretty easily.

Nice looking item A nice change would be a totally open top for scooping out water not bending over to a spickot. I cut the top open to allow water bucket dipping in. Rugged unit. I do like it. In fact as time goes on all homes will have to have a rain water collection system. Think..why not it's rain. New homes should add u derground holding tanks. Cranberry bog growers use them.
