Looks and performs brilliantly
Bought this to replace a plastic roll-top bin we had for over 15 years. An excellent replacement, you never have to touch it by hand to open it. Just wave your hand a few inches above the front sensor and the lid opens for 5 seconds before closing. A push button switch at the back of the unit turns it off for emptying purposes. The bag is easily changed using the black circular clip to hold it in place. It uses 3 large D cell batteries, which should last quite a long time. I have now had this sensor bin for 2 weeks and works well and consistently. The only small fault, if you could even call it that, is that when scraping a plate of food into it, the lid closes prematurely ie. not allowing for the 5 seconds. This does however not happen every time. I find it simpler to push the open button on the right of the sensor. This keeps it open until you push the close button. This really is a great quality product. I would rate the VanHaus sensor bin very highly.Verified purchase: YesCondition: Refurbished

Very keen to open for any movement at all!
Easy to assemble, but just walking too close past this bin causes the lid to pop open. I’ve a special corner where it replaced an old bin, but although it just fits it can’t go underneath the worktop like the old one as it sees the worktop and stays open. Lid will auto close once you’ve put something in it. I like it...very convenient when hands full of crockery, but the lid is very sensitive even when the worktop is a good 9” away. Bin liner shows around the edge of the lid if you’re not careful....just spoils the appearance a bit.Verified purchase: YesCondition: New

Good but annoying !!!

Does the job

Open wide...!
Finally we get a large mouthed bin that you don’t need to touch to deposit into. Sheer bliss. Whilst the sensitivity of the detector may be a bit too eager, frankly, it opening too much is much preferred than the alternative. Using 3 x D cell batteries, the positive action of opening and closing is reassuringly replicated upon demand. The closing action ensures that no wing bourne insects can gain unauthorised access, and that festering odours can not escape. The main cylindrical brushed stainless steel 50 ltr housing is finished at the top with a trim to preserve fingers from edge serration. A warning concerning the preservation against liquid gathering within is good to ensure that unnecessary premature corrosion does not occur and that use of appropriate 50 ltr bags to line it does. The only thing I miss is the covert storage point on our old bin where the roll of bin liners could be kept without having to hunt them down every emptying session. Would we buy another?
