Great value for money
Saw this recommended in a couple of places for a 64 litre tank, as they reckoned it really only works at about half the capacity it says it does. Well I'm using this from ground level to about five feet, didn't cut any hoses to size, and it appears to be still pretty powerful to me! I was worried about the flow, but the fish/plants don't seem to be bothered by it. The filter media is the major plus here compared to an in-tank filter - easily 10X the amount of space for your beneficial bacteria to grow and dirt to get trapped, and it's easier to access it all without contaminating the tank trying to get it out, or dripping water all over everything. The spraybar agitates the surface nicely - I had a problem with protein scum, so that's appreciated. One end is weighted down by the hose though, so it won't sit straight for love nor money. This comes with all the attachments you could want, which the other budget filter I was looking at didn't. Some needed to be cut to fit in my tank, as did a bit of my tank hood. The instructions could do with being a bit clearer, as it's not the most intuitive setup if you've never had a canister before - the online video doesn't help with the parts I had trouble with either. It's not silent - it reminds me of the noise of a fridge, but I like a low background noise so it doesn't bother me. Just got it, so can't speak to durability yet, but so far I'm happy with it and it seems powerful enough to do just fine in a tank much larger than mine!Verified purchase: YesCondition: New

Disapointing flow rate and hard to prime!
Having been a fish keeper for many years and having all types of internal and external filters I decided to go for this product for my new large tank based on the flow rate claims. Garbage, no way is the flow rate anywhere near 1000L/H, not even from brand new. There is a way to test this by filling up a measure for 60 seconds and multiplying the amount by an hour, I will do this. The pipes are too tough, way too much wall thickness, you need boiling hot water or a decorators gun to soften them enough to go on the flanges or you will snap the flimsy plastic parts. Then we come to the priming of the syphon cycle. Wow, did they put an old land rover leaf spring in the primer action? With it connected and in your cabinet, it's very difficult to get direct body weight behind your arms to press the action down. You're looking at a long time and a lot of effort to prime the air out of the system. The body of the canister and the locking mechanisms are well built and have had no problem with leaks but I doubt there is enough pressure to make a leak. You'd be better off putting a pond pump in your tank and attaching that to the canister and do away with the tiny little motor and impellor fan that is part of the filter. I'm a tool maker and life long engineer and I assure you that is NOT 1000L/H. Would I buy again and recommend? No way, go for Hozelock.Verified purchase: YesCondition: New

Best value item I've bought in a while!
A great item and next day shipping all add up to being real value for money! I had read a few bad reviews on here but in all honesty cannot understand the problem, it's easy to set up, very quiet, and the push down button used to prime the unit is very easy to use. External Filter
I have always had an internal filter for my 125ltr tank, but always wanted to have an external filter. They claim that this tank will move water effectilvy through 1000l/H ratio - it doenst. I have a 250Lt tank and had to buy an extra wave maker AND internal filter. This is due to the suction from this filter not being strong enough to circulate water in my tank. 8 months on and the rubber seal has gone, which conveniently isn't under warranty now. Exceptional value canister filter
At about half the price or more of the cost of similar filters I have seen for sale, this is great value purchase. There are a couple of drawbacks that I shall mention here but they should be taken in the context of price, this filter is about the cost of some second hand items I considered. The media supplied for the filter seem of good quality apart from the mechanical items (filter gauzes), these are quite lightweight looking so I have used sheets of filter sponge, cut carefully to fit, to supplement those supplied with the filter which I deemed inadequate. The brackets supplied for the spray bar and intake are unusually bulky, this made it very difficult for me to fit them to my corner tank which only has limited space for the various leads, cables and hoses to enter the tank at the rear. However, having said that, as a believer that you cannot over filter a tank, this product more than compensates for its few shortcomings by moving a lot of water through a large canister very quickly. I highly recommend it.
