Absolutely beautiful all-color collection of crisp photographs of the Milwaukee Road in action. The photos are laid out in coherent order with sections on the Chicago Terminal and Terre Haute Divisions and then proceeding west through the nine other Divisions until the conclusion, Winter on Snoqualmine Pass. With large page sized maps for each division and end papers showing the entire system map circa 1959. With index of photographers and bibliography. 192 pages.
It is very hard to get full color books of fallen flag railroads. But if you love the Milwaukee Road in its final decades, there is no substitute for this book. I model the Great Northern, the CBQ, the Northern Pacific, and the Miliwaukee Road from 1945 - 1970 in Minnesota and the Dakotas. The only thing this book lacks are photos of the postwar streamlined Olympian Hiawatha.
Add the book "The Milwaukee Road" to your collection!
"The Milwaukee Road" by Frederick W. Hyde is a fantastic book for fans of this now long-gone railroad and those interested in the later years of this Midwest to the Pacific Coast railroad. The large, often panoramic, color photos are incredible especially those of the Milwaukee Road in the mountains of Montana, Idaho and Washington. Highly recommended railroad book!
The Milwaukee Road by Hyde and Sanders is an amazing look at the railroad before and after the last bankruptcy in December of 1977? This book is hard to find because it was published in 1991. If you find it on EBay buy it now!
