Great product if it comes used/pre-activated

Do your research before you purchase one of these. T-Mobile will say they do not activate these anymore, but if you push them they will. The alternative connects to your home internet and makes you liable for a search warrant if someone uses the other type of device negligently. T-Mobile’s QA/help wiki still shows how to set these up when new, and there is a form with a link to an insecure (ssl expired) website where you can add a NON-prepaid T-Mobile account to register the new repeater/cell-fi device. However, if you’re lucky and rolling the dice, you should be able to get one of these used, registered to an old T-Mobile account. That means, it will work and repeat as a femtocell out of box! That’s great, but there is a caveat: your E911 location will be associated with the old address, so if you can’t tell the 911 responder your address they’ll send someone to the old E911 address, which is probably across the country and 2. You’re potentially violating FCC rules, but...that could be an overreach. Anyway, this product works well, although it won’t perform miracles, you’ll need a decent signal wherever it is set up. If you open the case it does have female SMA ports for RX and TX antennas.

  • Most critical review

Works as expected after some difficulty getting it set up properly.

The set I got does not work with the Cel-fi app over bluetooth or the USB port. That may be because it is an older version. Initially the window unit appeared to be restarting over and over. Without the app, it was hard to know exactly what was going on. Eventually, I moved the window unit to a different location where it started working better. I get a better signal on my phone at the other end of the house now and no longer miss text messages, which is great. The remote unit is reporting E4 which implies that the window unit is overheating. I checked and it is barely warm to the touch. Since the setup seem to be helping, I'm just ignoring that for now.

  • It dies exactly what it supposed to do without needing Wifi.

This does exactly what we need it to do. We moved into a large Adobe house in a rural area. So, our wifi is not nearly as good as it was when we had Xfinity. It also took us a while to get all that sorted out. Our phones all had 4-5 bars while outside but once we went into the house, if we got one bar we were lucky. I spent a lot of time answering the phone and then walking out the front door to get a signal. I called T-Mobile but all their boosters use wifi. I need to be able to boost the signal without taxing our new, much slower wifi. This Cell Spot is perfect. Setup was easy. The receiver, by a window is getting 3-4 bars and the booster in the house has all our phones up to 5 bars pretty consistently. It is not perfect and sometimes the signal is shakey but 95% of the time it does exactly what I wanted it to do. I'm very happy with this purchase as it is totally worth the money. It gives us the ability to turn off our phones' wifi so a couple of us can stream HD movies and the others can still do phone stuff.

  • Whew-w, a lifesaver...plus am sharing another fix-it tip (was free for me)

Am beyond relieved I was able to source and obtain this cell signal booster -- while I had been assured I was in an area of good coverage when leaving AT&T for T-Mobile not quite a year ago, it turned out my elevation turned out to be an issue as the nearest tower is situated much lower here in the Sierra foothills where I'm based. Cell actually worked okay for quite some time, but the service to my phone had eroded significantly in recent months entailing NUMEROUS calls to T-Mobile for tech support. : But one of the reasons I wanted to write this review too was to pass along the fact that this device was working "okay" initially but I was still losing ALL connectivity from the network multiple times a day, each time I moved my phone to another room in particular. So I contacted my phone's manufacturer after checking to see if any sort of update of the OS software might help (and of course T-Mobile wanted to blame my phone)...however the manufacturer assured me my phone was up to date, but did suggest a new SIM card. I went to the T-Mobile store and got that swapped in a couple days ago (provided free) and voila....I FINALLLLLLLLLLLY have reliable and consistent coverage here in my home, whew-w (as I have a home-based business and the cell is the business #). The device itself just takes a few minutes to setup and I personally have a rating of "8" in my large-ish home and that's with the other component of this 2-part device displaying just 2 bars. Excellent value overall, be sure to read all directions re: positioning. An inexpensive solution to what had become a Huge problem...and thankfully it saved me from having to endure the mega hassle of changing carriers again as a result. (I also use T-mobile's mobile hotspot for my desktop Internet connection, it's always worked fine in this location so for some reason just the cell signal had become the problem.). G'luck... UPDATE: It's now been over 6 months, unit is working fine. Just wanted to mention however that every once in awhile the receiver unit displays red lights. When it does this you just need to unplug for 30 seconds and plug back in to reset the device.

  • Good product

Before installing booster unable to receive any signal inside the house - had to stand in yard hoping for two bars. With unit installed in window, the personal cell spot will pick up one to two bars in the window. The cell phone will pick up four to five bars in the house, making our phones usable again. In my case, the booster works fine.

  • Pretty Good Purchase. Works Well.

Not the continuous 5 bars i was hoping for and the range is shorter then expected (drops off after about 10ft.) but my apartments pretty small so no biggie. Overall, for the price, I am happy with the purchase.

  • Not helpful in our apartment

Unit did not improve our service coverage in our apartment. Boxes are as far apart as possible, but only getting a 1 (one) from boost unit. Window unit is pulling good, 4 (four) bar signal.

  • Weak, better than nuttin...

Discontinued by T-Mobile. Window unit must have adequate signal otherwise useless. It doesn't repeat 5G, and only does a mediocre job of amplifying weak signals. I have no idea what T-Mobile offers as an update, but it's bound to be better than this.

  • Used, defective product. Save your money and get something else.

Received a non functioning product. It took 2 hours on the phone with t-mobile to get it "registered" for use and the thing doesn't even work. Definitely don't recommend buying this product.

  • It makes voice calls impossible

My phone stopped receiving calls after booster was registered, installed and running. Phone shows 5 bars signal with the booster and 1 without. Without booster it works fine but voice very bad. Tried several phones with the same result.
