Comparison with old Bosch models
I’ve had two Bosch generators plus other makes before. My previous Bosch were heavy and not a great design. The old model sole plate wasn’t fixed so you could put it on the board to rest the iron on. In reality this was awkward as it made moving the iron difficult with unfixed parts and no clip to secure iron. The old model was noisy and the electrical cord wore through fairly quickly. Descaling was a pain. The water tank wasn’t fixed which is slightly better but I have dropped and broken one. I don’t think they lasted very long but I do a lot of ironing. The old ones were powerful however and did a great job.
The new one!
Light, fixed but easy to fill large tank, no unattached parts, safety clip for the iron, smaller, easier to move and store. They all had / have very long leads which I like as I put the base on a chair, not the board.
I really like the new decalc method, no more pouring water into the base and shaking it out several times, which I’m sure contributed to a short life on previous models.
I don’t think it’s as powerful as the old models, it isn’t so good on creased and to dry cottons but good on everything else. One temperature to iron everything. It’s very very quiet, doesn’t drown out the tv.
It took me a while to figure out you have to hold the steam button down for 40 secs the first time you use it...
The slight loss of power is made up for by all the pros, very pleased so far!
