Reaches the parts other shears cannot reach ...
It certainly increases the range/reach from a standard hedge trimmer, probably best saved to only do the harder to reach bits, as manouevring is more awkward due to size, and the weight (at distance) gets tiring. With the wider 22mm cutting capacity, it can get into thicker evergreen growth that normally just deflects my existing hedge trimmer. I wouldn't consider a cordless unit (lack of power, short runtimes) so this is just the job. Only down side: Assembling the pole into the unit, it was impossible to get it to engage *all* the way into the tool, until it locked, needed to slacken off and remove a single large cross-head bolt through the handle to get a bit more wiggle room, then it went in with a push, now all solid and secure. It could use a mark on the pole to show how deep it is intended to engage, as it would be easy to think it was in, when it's not fully home.Verified purchase: YesCondition: Pre-owned

Owned an Aldi long reach cutter for 3 years Ordered McAllister but very disappointed Way too heavy will definitely be buying another from Aldi longer reach and much much lighter and easy to use. Cut above the rest
My first impression of MacAlister pole cutter was the price. For what you paid its quality design and functionality amazing. I was surprised on opening the box its ability to be folded completely in half to transit. I liked also how it was straight forward to put together by just following the manual instructions provided. To do this you simply pushed together the two halves making sure you aligning yellow arrows stickers. Once do you then slide up the threaded sheath to secured the poles together and you're ready to go. I found the cutter teeth very sharp. How it had a guard and other safety features. The engine easily handled the thicker branches of my hedge. The unit was well balanced and to extend the pole for harder reaching areas was very easy by unclipping a latch to extend.Verified purchase: YesCondition: Pre-owned

Great value, great performance...but heavy!

Hedging your bets..
You wouldn't want to use this for too long without a harness, I did as there wasn't one with it as it was pre owned. Good quality and as I've only got one long, high hedge, it should last a while! Use a smaller one for the low hedges. Mac Allister Hedge trimmer and it's problems.
This is a really good product, but is very heavy, rather too much muscle required for comfortable use. The cutters would benefit from being a larger cut for use on laurel or conifer hedges. Value for money
Good extension range and preset positions for head. Has made my life easier since I got it. Although there is a shoulder harness supplied, it is quite heavy with the extension extended.
