    First watch

My son needed a good watch to keep on on time and on task. So far, it has been a very big hit. So much so, that he wears it to bed at night. Like my own everyday Seiko 5, it has been trouble free and keeps very good time (for a mechanical watch). Easy to see and read, cool glass-back so you can see that gorgeous mechanism. These are without a doubt, the very best mechanical (self-winding) watches you can get for the money. You can spend big buck for Omegas (I have a Speedmaster) and Rolex mechanicals to impress, but you wont get a better timepiece. That is the primary reason military folks and survivalist like them. When all the batteries are gone, theses will still be keeping good time.

    Disappointment with an undependable product

I'm sadly disappointed with my first Seiko after all the praise I have read leading up to my purchase. My timepiece does not keep proper time. Isn't that the very LEAST you expect from a name brand wristwatch? I have a friend who buys cheap Chinese clone watches that keep better time. I wanted the real thing, a proper watch to do the simplest of all possible tasks: tell me what time it is accurate and dependable. This model isn't it.

  • Seiko is my brand

My first Seiko was purchase in 1971, while I was stationed in San Diego. I finally had to give that one to the Jewelry guy, because it was not worth the expense to have to replace the crystal and clean it. Now I regret that. I halve fallen for the see thru back side. And I now have four of them. This one is so dressy. I usually try to stay away from non Arabic numeral ones , but this one was just to gorgeous to pass up. Of course with this mechanism you have to keep it wound with your wrist motion or have a watch winder. the one thing that gives this style an A+ is that I don't have to replace the battery. And with good care and some maintenance, it keeps excellent time. The iridescent hour markers and the minute and hour hands are not quite bright enough for me, but I can live with it. The folding watch clasp bracelet is okay for me, as I have grown to like the way it snaps on my wrist. With some I like it more because it doesn't grab my arm hairs like the expandable ones have done in the past, and if you happen to take a swing it might go flying off your hand. I have not ever had that problem with the snap on one. The stem that sets the time, day and date seems hard to set some times, especially if you don't have enough of a finger nail. So all in all I will approve all degrees of anyone wanting to buy this watch.

  • the best bargain automatic watch anywhere

The Seiko SNK80* series are a set of smallish military style watches available in four colors. I chose green. The watch is beautifully made, accurate, easy to read and has a very useful day/date complication. The caseback showing the running 7s26c movement is very lovely and the movement is beautiful. This is a perfect everyday automatic, particularly good as a first auto for a new watch collector. The seiko is robust, runs well, and comes on a very sturdy and comfortable strap. At this price, the only reason not to buy is that you already have one

  • I love this watch

I've been wearing Seiko watches since the 60s. This is one of my favorites. it's the perfect size. Not too big or too small. The luminous hands and hour dots show up very well. The band is very comfortable. It keeps time like a quarts watch but best of all no batteries. If you are looking for a fancy dress watch this watch is not for you. If you want a reliable, accurate everyday watch it's perfect.

  • What a great watch!

For about $60 you just cant beat this. Even if it was over $100 I would still say a good deal. This watch has a surprisingly nice heft to it, considering its smallish size, it just feels really well made. Its keeping great time so far, and holding up great to the abuse I give it (I work in the golf course grounds maintenance trade). The nylon strap is really comfy. The lume is just awesome, and the shape of the hands actually add a little touch of elegance in my opinion, to this otherwise utilitarian watch. A lot of people say the strap frays easy, but i dont see this, i think its very well made. All in all, you cant beat it, ESPECIALLY for an automatic. The only things that would make this watch better would be a little more water resistance for those who would like to swim with it on, and a slightly larger case option. At 38mm, it is a little small for many people's tastes these days, I personally would not want it any smaller than it is. But it is an old school traditional size for a japanese watch. P.S. These watches feature the 7S26 movement, which is the same as found in their renowned SKX series dive watches!

  • Great cost for a mechanical movement

Item was as described. There was a slight scuff on the crown but this was included in the description. It's barely noticeable. The watch itself is an outstanding value. It's awesome that a quality mechanical movement can be so cheap. I love these watches so much I decided to give them to all my groomsmen as gifts. Definitely a gateway watch and I hope it gets all of them into the love of mechanical movements like it did for me.

  • Probably my favorite watch

I like this watch a great deal. I have worn Seiko's for about 25 years and have always liked their products. The only reason I replace them is I usually damage them at work but I now have a more cushy job where there is less chance of that happening so hopefully this one will last longer. Reasons I like it: Stylish blue face, stainless steel band with easy release, (I prefer silver to gold) no numbers, both the date and the day of the week, and the see-through workings on the back. Also the cost was a real bargain. I had to get a couple of links in the band taken out at the jewelry store when I got it but I knew that was going to happen through previous experience. One small problem with the self winding is that it works by the motion of your arm back and forth so if you don't wear it for 2 days it may stop and I wish it had luminous hands and hour markings to see at night. But, other than those 2 things I really like it a lot and would recommend it to anyone. I get compliments on it.

  • Seiko 5 Military-Style Field watch

Very, Very comfortable to wear, the 37mm size is perfect not to small and not to big. The lume is excellent and the dial is easy to read day or night. Overall excellent everyday and play watch. Rugged, excellent quality and comfortable time piece.

  • A great watch, my absolute favorite daily wear watch

OK, I'm not in love with the strap, but the watch itself is fantastic. A beautiful military field watch vibe, rich green color, perfect hands, and pretty good lum. The size is just right in my book -- large enough to have a presence, but not so large that it looks like you're trying to compensate for something. I have a few watches (including another Seiko 5, and a SKX007, but this is the one I put on every day. Now, as to the band. It's fine, but is nowhere near as nice as the watch. I recommend wearing the watch on it for a little while and then deciding how you want to replace it. There are some great, cheap, NATO straps available with brushed SS hardware if you like the general idea of the factory strap. There are some nice cheap perlon straps available. And, there are some great leather straps available. I have one of each -- perlon for the sweaty days of summer, NATO for a more casual look, and leather for cooler weather with jeans and an OCBD.
