Tiana lives in New Orleans and wants to open her own restaurant. She's not the first Disney heroine who has a dream that doesn't involve getting married; Ariel and Belle, after all, are dissatisfied with their lives and want to explore the world beyond their homes. The difference is that Ariel and Belle, once they meet their princes, are happy to settle down and focus all their attention on their guys. Tiana is just the opposite. She isn't impressed with Prince Naveen, who is rather lazy and conceited. She probably wouldn't give him the time of day if she weren't forced to hang out with him after turning into a frog. Tiana doesn't give up her dream, but she learns that having a career doesn't mean you have to turn your back on romance. Tiana is one of the most well-rounded Disney princesses because she gets to have it all, but has to work hard to get it. Neither the restaurant nor the relationship come easy. The New Orleans setting adds flavor to the plot. Some people feel the voodoo villain is too scary, but my three-year-old granddaughter is not bothered. Read full review

I didn't care for some of the characters and some of the music, but for the most part it's ok. The message for kids is good. The message: Follow your dreams, work hard and you can achieve it, and don't let anyone get in the way to achieve it. Finally Disney has message where a woman is not boy crazy and not dependent on a man. I would have liked seeing an African American princess in the whole entire movie and her not as a frog, but that is the movie. She holds her own well as the prince is a loafer. She teaches him hard work and not to be lazy. My nieces love it!

OK, who remembers outstanding Disney animated films? I sure do. This last decade Disney dropped the ball after they reclaimed their standards in the late 1980's. If it had not been for the Pixar films the last decade would have been a failure. This film was much talked about. Then, underperformed at the box office. Anyone remember good Disney characters? How about memorable Disney music with their films? Gone are the days. The film is good BUT not up to the old Disney standards. Some humor. NOT enough to carry the film. In my opinion they went back to the standard of 1996's The Hunchback of Notredame which just was OK. Watchable but not outstanding. Not a film you look forward to watch again nor do you talk about. Copied, used ideas. Same here. A few minor characters like Louis the alligator. No Disney songs you will remember. Notice no Oscar wins for Disney music in years. Jazz. Good looking animation is a plus. Now, Disney has just gone cheap in their DVD releases. Pushing or better said shoving blu ray down everyone’s throats. The DVD was like original DVD releases after the format came out in the late 1990's. A plain Jane silver disc. WHERE is artwork from the film on it? No chapter search list. NO good extras. Just plain cheap. DISNEY, TAKE NOTE, NOT EVERYONE IS SWITCH TO MORE EXPENSIVE BLU RAY. I am sure NOT. I want to see extras on Disney DVD's. Not you have to spend a lot more money to get a blu ray or blu ray combo pack just to get any extras of worth. Just a watchable animated film. You will not be talking about it or remembering the songs.Read full review
I have an unpopular opinion, in that this is by far my favorite of the Disney princess films. The music is stellar, I find that I can identify with the characters, and the film is beautifully animated. I teach college film classes, and I have watched a truly absurd number of films in my time, so I can vouch for the fact that it's well structured and beautifully designed, as well, even from a nuts-and-bolts standpoint. Perhaps the issue at hand is that I am an adult. I sincerely don't understand why this film did not make great numbers at the box office while Frozen managed new records, but it must have to do with the cinematic tastes of small children.

This DVD was a Christmas present and when my granddaughter & I watched it, it has the word "APPLY" All through the whole movie on the screen! This was definitely a movie that someone copied and not very well I might add. If I could give it no stars I would. This is my granddaughter's favorite movie and she (and I) were very disappointed!

I've seen this movie and thought it was great. I purchased this DVD for a little girl on my Giving Tree list. I hope she enjoys it as much as I did.

I was excited to see this movie since I love New Orleans and was thrilled to see Disney had made a movie set there. My kids are older so I waited a while to see it. I was disappointed that Disney did not put the work into animating it to make it a first-rate movie it could have been. The animation was closer to "Return of Jafar" quality. At one point the mysticism and voodoo got stupid and then the whole movie reminded me of that awful Dreamworks rendition of "Anastasia" which kind of jumped the shark with Rasputin's undead body losing body parts. Taken in summary I would say it was a good story that could have been better with some work on the plot and the animation. So disappointed they got a beautiful dark-skinned princess and did not give it 100%. I did enjoy the references to local food and culture. Worth watching...once.Read full review

I found this movie very delightful, with a good message for kids of all ages. The story had a new twist, new stars and good principles to teach. One such is, "To work for your dreams, not just wish for them." Yes, whatever you want in life you must work hard to get it. It must be a goal to work hard to achieve. The "Princess" and the Frog had a hard way to go, but met many friends along the way. Together they learned that money, riches and fame is not as important as true love; however, like King Solomon of the Bible, they got it all in the end. The story was full of colorful characters, lively music, laughter and down-right good entertainment! There was nothing I did not like about this movie - it was worth adding to my collection of good movies.
Princess and The Frog is one of my favorite animated Disney movies of late that has traditional animation. The characters are really nice, like Louis the Alligator, Tiana and Naveen, Lottie La Beouf, Eli "Big Daddy" La Beouf (John Goodman), and of course, Ray the firefly. I even like the villain, Dr. Facilier. And the soundtrack is wonderful, especially the song "Down In New Orleans" by Dr. John.
