    Excellent Christmas Film

I recall seeing this movie as a child at the theater. It was an outstanding experience and a real treat to see again as an adult. Perhaps the best Christmas Movie I have ever seen. The music and tunes are catchy and lively, all by Leslie Bricusse one of the most talented composers and lyricists of all time. In addition to this film, he also wrote the songs for Dr. Dolittle and Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory. The casting is excellent! I give it five stars all the way around.

    Musical Scrooge

The Albery Finney musical version of SCROOGE has always been one of my favorites. In my opinion the movie was well cast and performed. My only complaint is the technical quality of the DVD. I have two identical copies...one purchased used and the other [most recent] purchased new. I purchased a new one because the used one would not play in any DVD player. After buying the new copy I found it is a problem inherent in the recording company's DVD and BOTH copies have multiple dropouts, stoppages, and terrible static BUT only when played on a DVD player[s.] When placed in a computer system, the DVD plays fine...go figure. If you can tolerate only being able to play this movie on a computer or laptop it is a good purchase.

  • Scrooge a musical

I have many versions of "A Christmas carol" on dvd. One with Patrick Stewart one with George C Scott. And this one. I like them all. Scrooge a musical stands out because of the excellent acting and mostly due to the wonderful music. All cover the novel written by Charles Dickens very well. Turner classic movies will show this version along with the one made in the thirties. If anyone enjoys a version of A Christmas Carol that has excellent actors and great music I recommend Scrooge a musical.

  • The Least Relatable Scrooge

First, the DVD arrived promptly and is in excellent condition. That having been said, "Scrooge" is my least favorite rendition of Dickens' "A Christmas Carol." Throughout the film, Albert Finney displays only one expression (like a bloke with a bad toothache) as the proverbial miser Ebenezer Scrooge, except in the flashback sequence showing the younger Ebenezer's romance with "Isabel," who turns out to be Fezziwig's daughter. The songs are, for the most part, irritating and overlong and are repeated frequently. That having been said, I freely acknowledge that individual viewers' tastes differ, so some may enjoy this version of the perennial holiday favorite. I would say that it's worth at least one viewing. My preferences for versions of "A Christmas Carol" are (in approximate order) "Scrooge" (1951, Alistair Sim), "A Christmas Carol" (1984, George C. Scott), "A Christmas Carol" (1999, Patrick Stewart), and -- for "Downton Abbey" fans -- "The Man Who Invented Christmas" (Dan Stevens as Charles Dickens, Christopher Plummer as Scrooge, 2018).

  • Musical 'Scrooge'

This is by far the greatest production of Dickens' A Christmas Carol I've ever see. It was produced around 1970, but is timeless in scope and quality. The characters are well done and the music is outstanding. If you have never had the pleasure of seeing this classic, I urge you to get it. It will bring joy to your Christmas, and leave you humming the tunes for a week.

  • Best movie ever.

I saw this movie when I was a kid. Absolutely loved it. It shows the town dancing and singing on his coffin. He is also the coldest man in Haydee’s Best movie.

  • SCROOGE - Albert Finney Version

I've loved this version of Scrooge since my childhood. The musical production adds a bit of levity about frailties of the human condition. The song "Thank You Very Much" brings out humanities contrasting ideas on how each person views themselves vs. how they are viewed by others. The movie also has aspects that are more true to the book as when Scrooge gets a taste of "Hell" before being returned to his bedroom, something that is missing in more modern day, "politically correct" versions. Still a great flick!

  • Why do some people really hate this movie

Saw when I was a kid and liked it. Nominated for Academy award nominated and won 1. Some people really hate this movie. It`s different, some people just hate musicals, there is not that much dancing and singing, it`s just the right amount of both drama and acting and singing and dancing.

  • It's a Christmas classic

It is a movie I have loved since I was a kid. Now as an adult my husband and I watch it on Christmas eve. It is kind of a Christmas tradition. I bought this because I can't find my VHS version. My husband and I love the music and the acting.
