The Black Arrow slightly off the mark
"The Black Arrow" the Robert Louis Stevenson story got the Back Lot treatment instead of the budget for a swashbuckling Flynn yarn. So, rather than numerous location shoots they kept with three familiar, locales: possibly Griffith Park as a Sherwood Forest substitute and a medieval city. That said, the cast is certainly well-seasoned with the villainous George Macready, the ingenue, Janet Blair, and the middle-aged Louis Hayward, earnest and willing to press the engagement. The entire plot could easily take place within the castle recently seized (acquired) by the evil Macready. To assist the good characters prevailing over the baddies, Edgar Buchanan provides the necessary archery skills with the chumminess of Little John when necessary, leaving the Merry Men alone in the woods to wait things out. In the end, good defeats the bad and harmony returns to the realm. With a slightly larger budget, several castles would have accomodated the Stevenson plot more cleverly.
