Which strongly suggests that the arms were defined primarily as those of the kingdom and of the saint and town, by association. The kingdom was centred on the valley of the River Trent and its tributaries, in the region now known as the English Midlands.
Nice memento of a historic region not well known to Australians.
I ordered it by mail, having just visited the UK and missed finding one there. Cost of postage reduced value by quite a lot, unfortunately, compared to Scottish sticker I bought while there.
Good to have a Mercian flag on my window as I've spent the better part of my life in the old Anglo-Saxon kingdom. The sooner we revert to the old Heptarchy, the better. True devolution and an end to centralisation
