I bought this as I had a Dewalt XR drill driver which came with two batteries but lacked some torque when driving screws into wood; a driver could use the spare battery and have more torque. Well this unit has the torque. The different speed selection is useful and the torque is much higher than the drill driver, which is okay for small DIY jobs but not up to CLS stud work for example. The only warning I would give is to also get driver bits. I have found I am stripping the cheaper screwdriver bits quite quickly. The batteries last well but will be significantly discharged over a day, I use the drill for pilots and the driver for the heavy screws. Consider a spare battery for charging and a fast charger to get it charged while using the others or to do multiple batteries overnight. Really happy with the tool though. No problems at all, just adapting to having the right tool with a lot more power. Read full review

Bought as a second driver for the added torque for driving 6 120mm stud screws quickly and flexibility of the 3 speed settings, i found my existing impact driver whist brilliant was a bit to much for smaller screws, so now i can use the 887 for the big and small jobs and the 787 for the in between jobs with different bits installed to speed up workflow. I have been very impressed by the dewalt yellow range so far. I did wonder initially if i should have gone up to festool etc, but for the work i am doing the 18v dewalts are in for the win. Have the 2ah batts for the impact driver so keeps weight down and the 5ah on everything else.

After many years of daily service, my old dewalt impact driver finally gave up. I didn't think it possible to improve on the old one but boy I was wrong! The three speed function is a great feature and the torque is immense for an 18v. I used my mates makita one while waiting for the delivery of the new unit and it was useless compared to this. If you're in the trade and haven't invested in the dewalt platform then I strongly recommend you do!

Had a Bosch Pro Model for years and thought it was really good! It’s a toy compared to this! Am building a collection of DeWalt tools in the XR range including a drill, jigsaw, chop saw. Have been so impressed with the power, quality and battery sharing I went for this. It’s so powerful you have to take care not to overdrive screws. Great illumination of the job from the LED’ s (which remain on for some seconds after use) and simple push in/quick release of bits. I really cannot fault it! A brilliant buy with a 3 year warranty!
