I have been fishing in-shore and off-shore for the better part of 55 years, in many parts of the world. I used a lot of fishing equipment and this is one of the better reels I’ve used. Line wrap spot on and the reel is smooth as butter and the drag is perfect. Little heavier then many of my in-shore reels but it feels well built and sturdy. Tore it down right out of the box but found grease in all the right spots and in the right amounts. Looking forward to heading to Florida (if not violated by Rona) and doing a lot of fishing with this reel and am for sure buying a bigger brother to use also.

Smooth drag, lightweight, tough, durable, and beautiful - all words that I can use to describe this reel. I was a Shimano man for many years, but the Daiwa BG reel is just as smooth and tough as the more expensive Stradic reel from Shimano. This Daiwa is built to last. I have them from size 2500 to 8000, and can catch fish from bluegill to Goliath grouper with these reels. Show me a better reel in this $100 price point. I dare you.

My reason for choosing the Diawa BG series is because on the all metal frame work. This is my second one and probably wont be the last! These reels are nicely balanced and extremely smooth. The weight of the handle will rotate down freely on its own weight. Well done Diawa!

I’m addicted to fishing for years, been through so many different reels form different manufactures, so far this small piece art is the best on its price range, same quality as $200 plus reel

I have had many of the older ( and heavier ) BG reels . Nice to see that Daiwa can keep producing quality reels and reduce the weight at around the $100. Price point. I own two newer BG 1500 and a 2500.

Excellent reels, I have several and use them all for Snook, redfish and Trout and anything else in shallow water. A perfect size for my needs.

This is a nice reel. Overall, it is smooth and looks good. It does have a bit of weight on the reel handle when turning from the rotor. Decent reel for under $100 but I prefer to spend a bit more for the Daiwa Tatula. I have a couple of these and there is no comparison.

This reel is exceptionally smooth winding, has a very good drag system, the weight is noticeably light, and it looks really classy.

Tested this reel on some 30 to 40 lb bull reds. Drag worked great and smooth. Will be upgrading more reels with the BG 2500.
