Cucamelon - perfect accompaniment to salads
Most of my vegetable garden has been started using seeds from this company, and the cucamelons are no exception. They do favour slightly warmer weather, and fortunately living in France I was able to plant them directly in the ground (although a greenhouse will do). They germinated quickly, and just keep on growing and producing until late into the year, when the frost eventually kills them off. They were one of my longest lasting vegetables, easily superseding all my cucumbers, and you do not need to grow that many to have a continual harvest. They have a nice crunch and do taste a little like a cucumber crossed with a melon (hence their name); my kids go crazy for them! They're a great little addition to salads and a talking point among guests who have never seen them before.
