A decent mid-range Sony tv, for Sony fans, that offers some value for this price point.
This is a solid, good value mid-range Sony TV. Sony's pride themselves on vibrant colours, easy to use, simple menus and good robust design and looks. This TV delivers on that front. In comparison, there is not much between this and similar priced TV's from Samsung and LG, so it's down to personal preference re brand.
It has a 400hz refresh rate (you can pay more for 100), is rich in colour and upscales nicely into 4k, and more so UHD. Sky Q looks good, and there are a good range of settings and modes to be played with depending on what you are watching.
The 55" is surprisingly big, but worth a push for if you have space, as it is noticeably bigger than the 49" ones, even if some do have better specs (i.e. Full Array LED).
It's good, but it's no OLED, but they are double the price (i.e. £1,500).
My only moans would be that it feels mid-range overall, it has poor 20W sound (so needs a soundbar), has poor online content streaming (ok if you don't rely on it being fully smart) and the fact that Sony is only really competing with likes of the surpassing Samsung and LG (LG make all TV screens) at the higher end (and this isn't it) so leaves customers who are loyal going for Sony.
Sport was good, but there are better sets, cartoons and animation are best, films ok, people on normal HD TV takes some getting used to (more about natural colours and shades than outright pixel clarity and contrast) and gaming is great/best.
A good TV at £699 (i got 10% off), but needs a soundbar, and one i think won't last you 5 years if you get twitchy and excited about technology advances and want more of the leading, top and higher end. Overall good value, great for Sony fans and a decent enough big TV. My only advice, go see the different models at a Superstore to convince yourself what you are getting for your money, and is it worth spending more for more?!
