True to the Word
This is a very godly film that reads to you the precious words of the Gospel of John with a valid translation, excellent narration, and riveting acting~especially by the Jesus character. The cultural details and original languages are used...amazing. Really, this is an edifying experience..."faith comes by hearing and hearing by the Word of God..." Romans 10:17
Sometimes the Jesus character's actions would make me uncomfortable. He is very passionate, zealous, and radical...but I can imagine the real Jesus being the same. Jesus was not afraid of confrontation and His words and teachings WERE offensive...sometimes even meant to offend. He wanted to filter out the true from the false disciples. People didn't care enough about Him to try to understand. As soon as it was displeasing enough to be with Him, they left Him. They were only there for physical bread, but few were there for real spiritual food. This film does a good job of portraying these aspects of Jesus' ministry.
I don't think anything is a substitute for time spent reading the Bible, but this is a great way to share the good news with someone who will watch a movie but would never pick up a Bible. Just don't let the actors' performances imprint themselves too deeply into your mind...they gave it their best and did a GREAT job, but it's not to be taken as how Jesus or His disciples actually looked or acted like...because beyond the description of the Bible, we simply don't know...that's where faith comes in.
