NotesKnight of Cups is the latest film from maverick director Terrence Malick (The Thin Red Line, Tree of Life). Featuring an all-star cast including Christian Bale (The Dark Knight), Cate Blanchett (Carol), and Natalie Portman (Black Swan), Knight of Cups is an impressionistic drama that follows a Los Angeles-based screenwriter attempting to make sense of the strange events surrounding him. While he's successful in his career, he is haunted by death in his family and lives a vapid existence. He finds temporary relief in the Hollywood excess that comes to define him and in the women who provide a constant distraction from the daily pain he endures. The soundtrack features an eclectic selection of songs from far-flung genres. The classical compositions of Arvo Part and Edvard Grieg mix with pumping electronic tracks and Pakistani favorites. Composer Hanan Townshend (To the Wonder, The Better Angels) provides original score selections that weave expertly with Malick's one-of-a-kind soundscape.
