It's an engaging film, sensitively handled and beautifully set.

The film is as true as it can be to the book. It's a tough and emotional story but it flows really well and the characters are portrayed excellently by the actors. I saw the film then bought the book and dvd as I was so taken by it. The extras on the dvd are also informative and interesting.

    Terrible!

I finally watched this film with much anticipation that I was going to see something brilliant. But I was very, very wrong. The first part of very well acted and filmed, but then, once the little girl is kidnapped. I think it turns really bad; very sour with no sensible story and hard to continue watching; but I forced myself to watch it to the end. Just to see if things would sort themselves out. Why? Because it was really unbelievable. It could have been far better, with the father being shown the love of the Lord. But it wasn't. It was just 'religious', with no (in my opinion) true sense of the Lord coming through at all. So my copy of the film will be given to anyone I can find in my church who wants it; or the local benefit shop.

  • The Shack

I bought this having seen the film before. I love this film, it's so uplifting. The cast were perfect in their roles. If you have red the book and enjoyed it then you will love this film.

  • Helpful, inspiring film which challenges views on God and brings the trinity into focus.

Great film bringing a great book to life very well. Helpful themes which portray God's love and desire for relationship with us all. Strong acting performances across the cast

  • Makes you see things in a different light

This is a film you will want to have tissues on hand. Was so good I bought the book as well. Have passed it on to ours to watch as well. You will end up looking in side your self and re give your life to the Lord if you have not done it all ready.

  • FORGIVNESS KEY TO SUCCESSFUL LIFE

Great move, based on everyone's life. We all have been hurt in some way. Makes one realise that we all need to forgive those that have hurt us, in order to live a fulfilled life just as God forgive's us for the pain we cause Him. Love that is so perfect and powerful. Enjoyed every minute & can't wait to watch it again.

  • Better than the book but still not a great tale

To cut to the chase, I don't like the concept, plot, structure, ideology, characters or 'it was all a dream ending' of the original book, though I do like the compassionate, feminine characterisation of God, which challenges and undermines male-biased norms. The film is better - and shorter than the novel - but it's still a cop-out on tricky issues of faith and suffering in the human experience. That said, lots of people love this film and the book, but probably because they've never really thought about the heart of the issues here, or been exposed to the much better thought out, argued and presented alternative allegories out there. This film saves them having to bother by offering less satisfactory and rather sugar coated antidote.

  • The Shack is about a father's spiritual journey after tragically losing his daughter.

Sent this to my friend, but I have watched it and read the book a few years ago. It is a story and certainly not theology, but does look at some topics in a helpful way, whether you are a Christian or not, looking at forgiveness, justice, dealing with grief etc. and the storyline is very engaging and well acted.

  • A great story, well played!

This film has an excellent story line, with a final twist to the tale. For a Christian there are many levels to watch it on, and it is even watchable for a non christian.
