I love it when band steps out and records a full album of covers. It says so much about them, and Saxon have made no secret of that with the title of this album. Ozzy Did a whole album of covers a few years ago which was surprisingly good, and again said a lot about his musical background. Wet wet wet also did it, but under a pseudo name. Saxon did cover 21st century schizoid man some years ago but it’s quite brave to put out a whole album, as they’ve done here. And it’s not necessarily the obvious covers you think they may have chosen. Paperback writer was a surprise as was Toto’s toe the line. What they have done, in the cross-section of covers, is pick songs that really suit Biff‘s voice. That said, they are covers and not tribute band mimics. They all payed and produced with the Saxon Drive and energy which is what makes it such a lovely, different album from them while we await the next album of originals.
Mediocre pub band rock covers at best , call it a day lads if this is the best you can do, and I've been a fan since 1980,enjoy your retirement and stop milking the fans.
Great album some good covers on here Bomber & The Rocker sounding both quite powerful. Toto's hold the line did'nt think it would work but certainly does good effort from Saxon.
