Jean Reno lives a calm, quiet life in his apartment, tending his plants, shopping and, occasionally, doing a little job. He's Leon, a professional hit-man, whose life is changed when rogue cop Gary Oldman wipes out a neighbouring family, leaving only 12-year-old Mathilda (Natalie Portman) alive. Leon takes her in and teaches her to harness her revenge-fuelled desires into his mould of professionalism. Luc Besson's film follows their relationship amid the growing body count as Oldman realises someone's on his trail in the director's first American venture.
