It is always going to be difficult to follow an actor of the presence and ability of Michael Caine, especially in a project that is based on one of his and the classic 1960's films.
In this case, there is 6 hours of space to fill not a 2 hour film slot, this box set is good, the locations, the sets, the costumes and the action is great.
It is let down in a very small way by figures of speech not used then and some technical inaccuracies concerning the vehicles and a few minor points, but take these away and the story is good and somewhat different from the original, but still works well.
Joe Cole and Lucy Boynton are two actors I have not seen before but they are cast well in the parts and their acting is top quality.
I can see scope for another production like this perhaps adapting Funeral in Berlin or a similar Michael Caine style of film, Cold War Berlin is a fascinating place full of intrigues and based on the quality of this production worth pursuing.
On balance I give this 5 stars as it delivers a great piece of drama.
