  • Value for money ROG STRIX motherboard

If you're content to have WiFi 6E instead of WiFi 7 and, happy to have gen 4 SSD storage and not gen 5, this is a brilliant value for money ROG STRIX Z790 motherboard. The VRM cover height means that the CPU is better suited to a water block, rather than my Noctua D15 air cooler that has to be swung through 90 degrees. There's the worry that the Intel micro code may not have solved the CPU overvoltage problem, plus you'll probably need an anti-bending frame for the CPU. However, those are the same problems you'll face with other Z790 motherboards. My other ASUS motherboards run everyday at 34% overclock without a problem. This year I've returned several mini-PCs, so I've returned to ASUS for this Z790. I don't want to be an early adopter of a Z890, so it will be into 2025 for an ASUS Z890 build.
