Can Chop Pecans---Sort Of
I am trying to cut down on the French fries that we made years ago with the older Veg-o-Matic.
I have 7 pecan trees and make all sorts of goodies using pecans. I keep looking for a way to chop pecans into uniform chunks. The food processors I have do a decent job, but the variation in size is unacceptable. Commercial nut choppers are too expensive for me.
I bought this Veg-o-Matic as an experiment to see if it would work, off label, as a nut chopper. So far it is my tool of choice for making small chunks. I use the dicing blades and chop about an ounce at a time. I do have to tape down the blades, since the pusher, as it retracts, tries to remove them from the base.
Since it takes some time to clean the pusher, I chop a pound or two at a time and keep the chopped nuts in the freezer. Works well for me.
