  • Good solid construction

This lathe is solid and vibration free. I found using it on the high speed gives smooth and quick wood removal. The face plates supplied give a good solid hold on workpieces of various sizes as does the drive prong. I have not needed a scroll ckuck as I make Jam Ckucks for holding items for turning (look on Youtube). I will get a set of shorter handled wood turning tools, the longer ones make access a little more difficult for smaller items. The lathe (Draper 230v 250w Mini Lathe- Variable Speeds) has 20% off at the moment with a code you enter on ordering. So get yourself a bargain before the offer ends. I am very pleased with the lathe and takes up very little room.I used to have a much bigger lathe and realy was only useful for turning longer items, and changing the speed involved opening the belt cover and moving the belt position on the pulleys. This Draper does it with the turn of the speed dial making for a quick and easy progresion through the range. You could purchase a drill chuck ( none is supplied with the lathe). Happy Woodturning, its very satisfying.

  • Great little lathe

Great little lathe, ideal for small projects like pen turning. Seems very stable being made from heavy cast steel and the variable speed is really useful. Very happy with it and would definitely recommend this for anyone wanting to get into turning but on a tight budget or with limited space available

  • Draper tools do it right.

Absolutely a diamond bit of kit. For a mini bench top wood turning lathe you be hard pressed to find anything out there to surpass it. I did my homework before choosing what to buy and for the money, I paid just under £200 including vat & package and posting, I couldn't find anything on the market to even come close.

  • Small wood lathe

Great beginners lathe the tail stock is a bit on the cheap side the rest of it is good not to powerful to give a learner problems and after learning the tools and how to use them I think an upgrade would follow

  • Quality lathe

My first lathe, cast iron bed. Really sturdy, so easy to set up. You get a couple of plates and two tool rests. It's easy to adjust the speed. Recommend to beginners like me.
