Entry level electrostatics
Edited review after a few years of listen.
It's still my most favorite headphone. I first heard about this from Zeos' youtube channel, which has a demo. Imagine having both the detail of IEMs with the bass of full sized headphones. If you want to hear recordings in the most neutral way possible, this is probably it (for this price range).
Its sound signature is totally natural (it activates your ear resonances just like real life). Frequency response is flat but with a small treble spike and a large deep bass rolloff. This causes the treble spike to be fatiguing to listen to for some songs. This treble spike also robs away soundstage quite a bit. I like to equalize a simple 12 db downward slant from 0-20k to remedy these issues.
Compared to the HD600's, it is just as neutral sounding, but much clearer in the high treble. However the soundstage is a little better on the HD600s.
Note that Japanese imported electronics are different voltage from many places so be sure to buy a correct (center negative) adapter. Or you'll break it on first listen, and cry.
Beware that the headband is trash. Mine broke in 2 different places. Cheapest plastic material (ABS). The replacement costs $75 and the higher quality ones cost ~$200, which is ridiculous. so treat these like your baby.
