Having just replaced a fairly ancient railway sleeper fence I needed a chainsaw to cut the removed sleepers into manageable bits. After a bit of time looking, and comparing attributes and price, I was drawn to the Hyundai product, partly because it was a brand I recognised but more so due to the engine size and the bar length. Thus the Hyundai saw was ordered. I wasn't too sure what to expect for the money I paid but the first thing I noticed when it arrived was the weight of the boxed item, not especially heavy but nowhere near as light as I thought it might be. On extracting the bits from the box, I had the first "better than expected" moment, the build quality and robust construction materials were obvious. Putting the parts together was a simple enough task although doing this revealed the one reservation I have about the machine and that is with the chain tensioning mechanism which has a plastic adjuster screw. However, setting it up went well and the initial chain adjustment wasn't a problem. Once together the saw was easier to handle and felt well enough balanced and in this state the weight became less obvious. So, the fuel tank and chain oil reservoir were filled with the requisite fluids and the moment of truth for the engine starting process, the second "better than expected" moment was met. With the engine primed, choke and ignition both on, decompressor activated, a couple of easy pulls on the starter saw the engine burst into life. The motor idled nicely, revved freely and no running adjustment required whatsoever, which is a definitely "better than expected" as setting up the carb wasn't something I'd particularly desired to do. With the engine warmed up, safety gear donned and the workpiece positioned ready the first cut was made - definitely the best "better than expected" moment as the blade went through the sound sleeper like a hot knife through butter. With no discernible drop in engine speed and minimum user effort the saw made short work of the first few sleepers. Noise levels were unobtrusive and easily damped to a comfortable level with ear defenders. Having used the machine on and off for several hours the task never became burdensome and the saw maintained it's initial good cutting capability, which, along with the necessary tension adjustments of the new chain, made the task fairly easy, and critically, without any issues whatsoever. At this juncture I've given the Hyundai four stars as it's early in our relationship. For build quality, robustness and my opinion on value for money it would be five stars but for now I need to keep one star in reserve until the saw is fully proven over time. On initial "better than expected" impression I fully expect it to gain that additional star and therefore happy to recommend it for purchase. Read full review

It is cheap chainsaw so I wasn't expecting much but still it managed to disappoint me! It worked only once when I cut a few small branches into small parts. A few months later, when I've tried to use it I was unable to start it. I've used 2 different brands of 2stroke 40:1 oil, fresh petrol from 2 different garages to no avail. When I've contacted tech support they've asked me to send it back and to my surprise they've discovered that it is working perfectly fine! And charge me over £50 for this "job"! Yet I have the chainsaw back and I'm still unable to use it. I mix a fresh mix and nothing (precisely as it is in the manual!) - it is not starting. It is so sensitive to the petrol mix it is unusable! I've stuck with useless chainsaw! Avoid, Avoid, Avoid!

I’d bought a Hyundai petrol lawn mower last year and was impressed with the quality. The chainsaw appeared to be a quality product on taking it out of the box. I’ve used it just once so far and it has made a great job of slicing through a large pile of logs easily. I can’t comment on its durability, but it appears to be well built. The three year warranty gives me confidence it will be a good purchase. The £20 discount made it seem good value as well.

Value for its price with a 20 inch bar chain, can cut a reasonable size tree and branches. The only thing is if the engine was smaller, also they should improve the quality of the covers & tool kit and make the chain blades slightly thicker, that's why you get 2 sets of chains. Also Hyundai Power Equipment Direct who sells these equipment have a third class customer service when buying or enquiring about parts, either they don't have a clue or don't bother. Still waiting for a call back twice.
