NotesMichael Schenker is truly a legend. From helping form the Scorpions to his stint with UFO, his guitar prowess has been electrifying from the beginning. This brand new recording perfectly captures the MSG aesthetic and mystique, which makes sense as 4/5th's of the original MSG are back in the fold! Singer Gary Barden, drummer Simon Phillips and keyboardist Don Airy join Schenker and bassist Neil Murray for one of their best recordings and a return to classic MSG form. Pushing the boundaries of hard rock, heavy metal and blues rock to the limits.
Way back in 1980, Michael Schenker left UFO to pursue a solo career. His first album featured an unknown singer named Gary Bardon [unknown to me anyhow]. The album was fantastic in every way! Then MSG 2 came out, and it was even better! Then for some reason, Barden left and was replaced by Graham Bonnet [yuck]. He came back and made another great album, Built to destroy, then left again and MSG went downhill, in my opinion. Jump ahead now to 2006, and Barden comes back to record the MSG album, In the midst of beauty. For some reason, I wasn't expecting much, but it is again, magic between Michael and Gary! The songs are hard rock Heaven. Schenker is in top form, playing great solo after great solo. Barden brings out the best in Schenker as a song writer, and always comes up with good melodies. Album starts out rocking with City lights, and never lets up. Not the best MSG album ever, but pretty darn good! Buy it!
