I have an interest in military aviation and purchased this expecting to find a detailed analysis of how downed aircraft were and sadly still are recovered. There is only a cursory description of events either before or after WW2 but this was expected. The volume begins well enough and is well produced plentiful excellent photographs. In my view, the book then becomes at about the half way point, an apologist perspective for some of the very dubious activities that took place in the later quarter of the last century where ‘enthusiasts’ competed with each other to dig up the remains of aircraft with on too many occasions human remains being disturbed. The official position of the Royal Air Force, Ministry of Defence and indeed Government is often implicitly criticised Hopefully things have improved in this area of ‘archeology’.Read full review
