  • Aussie soap at its best

From the word go each character fitted right in. The casting was excellent. The storyline is believable and the acting is superb. Having watched the whole series when it was first broadcast, it left a big hole in the weekday viewing when it came to an end. When something this good finishes it is like something dying for real. imagine my delight at finding out that another two series have been commissioned and is being filmed as I print this. When approached, the complete original cast wholeheartedly agreed to return for the two series, such was the bond they had formed. If you are lucky enough to remember anything of the fifties then this will bring back that feeling of nostalgia. I have purposely not given any of the storyline away as it is something to be savoured. It is guaranteed to leave you wanting more.

  • Losing momentum

First two series good, entertaining, more or less credible. They were, effectively, self-contained, finishing with the words THE END. Producers obviously then thought, wow, that went well: let's extend it. Result: alternative ending, and a story line which requires constant jazzing up with ever more startling twists and turns in the plot. Still very good acting by Sarah, Elizabeth, Ana, Jack. Rene not too convincing as a Frenchman. George a bit wooden. Oh, and continuity: could we find some more shots to tell us we're in Sydney: if that bus passes the harbour bridge again, it'll never reach its destination.

  • BEST SERIES

SAW THIS SERIES FIRST ON BBC TV. JUST HAD TO HAVE THE DVD`S SO THAT I COULD WATCH IT AGAIN AT MY LEISURE. THIS A WONDERFUL STORY BUT HAS TO BE SEEN FROM NUMBER 1 AS IT WOULD NOT BE POSSIBLE TO PICK UP EVERYTHING OTHER THAN STARTING AT THE BEGINNING. HAVE WATCHED IT TWICE NOW AND WOULD WATCH IT AGAIN AND AGAIN. THE ACTING IS SUPERB. HAVE PASSED IT ON TO MY FRIENDS. MY BEST FRIEND IS WATCHING IT FOR THE FOURTH TIME. WOULD RECOMMEND IT TO ANYONE. THE ONLY TROUBLE IS IT IS SO COMPELLING THAT ONCE YOU START WATCHING YOU CAN`T STOP SO HAVE TO GIVE YOURSELF PLENTY OF TIME TO ENJOY IT ALL.

  • A Place to Call Home

A brilliant drama set in Australia in the 1950s. Sarah has escaped a tragic wartime past and becomes involved with the wealthy Bligh family when she begins work as a nurse at the local hospital. She faces many difficulties as she seeks a new life and a different future. A riveting series. To my mind much better than Downton Abbey.
