Reviews5 stars out of 5 -- "It stitches together reggae, proto-math-rock noodling, Devo angularity and funk into a seamless, symmetrical and bizarrely sexy package..."
I would definitely place Talking Heads' second album among their best records. It is truly pioneering in terms of music, lyrics and Brian Eno's sound engineering. It is on pair with "Fear of Music" and "Remain in Light." I love these two albums, but find "More Songs About Buildings and Food" more consistent. It picks up where the band left recording the first album and prepares the ground for the two aforementioned records and Byrne's "Katherine's Wheel." Byrne is great, but may be still before his prime (some lyrics barely get through though they sound clear on live versions from "The Name of This Band is Talking Heads)." Weymouth, Frantz and Harrison are fantastic. Original, pioneering and very difficult to match.
Considering it is over 40 years old this album still sounds edgy and vital today.
Brimming with great off the wall lyrics and musical ideas...the start of Warning sign is an absolute delight with echo treated drums...The girls want to be with the girls is David Byrne at his vocal best..along with Found a job, stay hungry and the big country....no wonder Brian ENO wanted to produce them at this point...they were the hottest band around...
And talking of production..I think it’s actually their best... commercially ‘Speaking in tongues’ was the big seller but the production is really not great...possibly because they did it themselves....but this album is perfect.
