About this product

Product Information

Star-studded prequel to the classic battle epic, Zulu. Both films are based on real events, but this one focuses on the build-up to the British invasion of Zululand as the colonial authorities take the natives' defiant stance on tribal customs as a declaration of war. Confident of superior firepower, the British commanding officer under-estimates the Zulus and commits the folly of dividing his forces, leading to the massacre of 1,500 British soldiers at the Battle of Isandlwana in 1879, as they are overwhelmed by superior numbers. This doesn't match the nail-biting tension of the original, but there's a huge assortment of characters and well-known faces to compensate.

  • Zulu Dawn

Nothing bad. good Value, well packed, and delivered on time. A well presented view on how the anarchic desires of the British Empire; at its height, were made to suffer an embarrassing defeat at the hands of a well disciplined force of native warriors. Although the final result was inevitable; It shows all of the arrogance that the so called establishment held for this fine band of warriors, who held no grudge against The British Empire, and just wanted to live their lives, in the way that they had, for centuries before, as an independent nation. It also shows the most major defeat inflicted on any modern army, with all of the firepower that a modern army had, at the time this film was set, by a band of native warriors; who were obviously better led, and had better knowledge of their native terrain. Also, they were fighting to preserve their own way of life, independence, and culture.

  • Good prequel to Zulu

As a student (very mature) of all things Zulu, this is a good film as a prequel to Zulu. Not historically accurate in many ways (same as Zulu), but good entertainment
