This is a far better film than the second in the 'Fantastic Beasts' series 'The Crimes of Grindelwald', but not as engaging as the first 'Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them'. The latter had humour, drama, poignancy, and lots of fantastic beasts. The third outing has little humour, and very few beasts, and although the acting and special effects are engaging, the pace is slow at times and is a key flaw. Be aware - a very good beginning leads into a sequence of dull scenes - but stick with it! This film it is worthy of a second viewing to appreciate the details, and to savour an excellent last thirty minutes.

Dumbledore must have been going through a bad time in his life when this period of it is depicted because he is nothing but morose and gloomy all the time to the pint of making the watcher depressed! Supposedly about the Fantastic Beasts but nothing to do with them at all apart from slipping in a few references and sightings of Newt Scamander. Just the life history of Dumbledore really and a glum one at that!

On first viewing I found it difficult to engage with the story with the same ease as the first two films in the series. It is a much slower burner and it took a second viewing before I could absorb the darker atmosphere. Overall it is an enjoyable third outing and, hopefully, not the last.
