Fence Pickets

Fence Pickets

A picket fence is a fence with upright pieces of wood that are spaced out and connected by one rail, or sometimes two. Fence pickets can be small lawn edging pieces, picket panel wooden pales, or complete panels and they may be plastic or wooden.

A fence picket is used to separate an outdoor area from another outdoor area, often dividing neighbours’ gardens, to add visual appeal to an outdoor property, or to create the idea of a separate space within an outdoor area.

Different types of fence picket

  • Wooden pales - Wooden pales are for fence pickets, but are not complete panels. So you may purchase these to make your own fence picket panels. These are commonly sold in packs of set amounts, and are usually smoothed and rounded at the top, varying in height and width
  • Full sized panels - These are complete panels that are ready to be installed as picket fences. Most panels are smoothed and the pales have rounded tops. They are usually made from wood and are sold in packs of set amounts. The height and width can vary
  • Freestanding panels - Unlike some fence panels that need to be installed, freestanding panels have stands on the bottom to enable them to be placed rather than installed in the ground. They may be used in temporary situations where a fence is needed
  • Edging or border - Commonly made from plastic, edging and border in a picket fence style is commonly white. Some styles are flexible in their design so they can be bent around corners. Edging is commonly sold in packs of set amounts
  • Hurdles -  The fences have criss cross pales rather than ones standing upright. They are usually made from a mixture of metal and plastic and vary in size and height
