I bought these chappies for short-range, 'opportunity' shots. I have the rifle set for distance and an irritating number of times, I've found bunnys blundering obliviously within five or ten yards of me. The result is that I fire high and the rabbit scampers off to bonk another day. Occasionally it will be so unaware of the danger that it will hop away, into the correct range and Darwin's law prevails but usually I'm left cursing telescopic sights. The idea of buying these monsters was to automatically adjust for short-range by virtue of their impressive weight. Unfortunately, it wasn't so simple. H&N have taken their 'Rabbit Magnum 2' pellet and...they say 'electroplated', I say 'plastered', copper all over them. From what I've subsequently read, the original was already a tight fit. The copper added to these not only puts on another half-mil to the 5.5cal. advertised, but in my tin at least, appears to have coated them unevenly, resulting in more contact with the barrel on one side of the pellet than the other. The result is that unless you're using an airgun with 35-40 ft/lb's, these things could end up going practically anywhere within a 180 degree radius of the rifle! I exaggerate for effect. You don't need a PCB air-rifle for these, you need an 'FAC monster' to make good use of them. My recommendation would be for the H&N Barracuda's; still snug, still heavy but just beautifully made. These things look like they came about as an after-thought and were never designed to be covered in copper. They're the only bad pellet I've seen from H&N. It's a shame and I hope they fire the fool who thought it up.Read full review
