Cater for Cleaning with a Commercial Sink

A commercial-grade sink is a fundamental piece of equipment for any commercial kitchen. Immense volumes of tableware, equipment, and raw ingredients are processed daily and a regular sink is incapable of handling industrial demands. Whether you’re looking for a new unit, or simply need a replacement piece, eBay has a commercial sink at a price that suits you.

How many litres of water can a commercial sink hold?

Commercial sinks are generally designed to hold anywhere between 50–150 litres, which is normally specified by the manufacturer. If the manufacturer does not specify the capacity of the sink, multiply the dimensions of the sink’s bowl (length, width, and height) in centimetres (cm), and divide the answer by 1000 to convert it to litres. For example, a sink with the dimensions of 60cm (L), 50cm (W), and 40cm (H) has a volume of 120,000 cm3 and hence can hold approximately 120 litres (120,000/1000). Bowl dimensions are ordinarily specified in millimetres (mm) and it is recommended that you always check the unit of measurement before purchase as sinks of the same capacity can be either deep or wide.

What material is a commercial sink made from?

The vast majority of industrial sinks are made from high-grade stainless steel, a resilient and durable material. Stainless steel is a steel alloy, produced by combining steel with nickel, chromium, and aluminium. This gives an industrial-grade sink the ability to resist rust, renders it capable of managing high temperatures, and allows it to handle concentrated commercial cleaning chemicals. Due to the strength of stainless steel, commercial sinks are lightweight and versatile, which allows them to be easily repositioned.

What are the benefits of a commercial sink?

A commercial sink is specifically designed to accommodate large volumes of kitchen cleaning. They have the capacity to hold industrial grade pots and commonly feature openings for cleaning hoses and nozzles. The following additional benefits are also offered:

  • A common commercial sink will have 2 compartments, although some feature 3 or more bowls, which increases cleaning efficiency.
  • Stainless steel is a non-porous material, meaning that grease, fat, and food residue can be effortlessly removed. This reduces general maintenance costs and allows the kitchen's commercial hygienic standards to be maintained.
  • Some commercial sinks have an area designated for the preparation of raw ingredients. This provides additional kitchen space and can easily remain bacteria-free with the application of a sanitiser.
